Saint Laurent SS16
Saint Laurent is not for the faint-hearted.
The SS16 show started with a bang - with diagonal rainbow lights that spun around in the background before the models stomped their way for the namely 'Surf Sound Collection'. Before I go on about creative director Hedi Slimane's magic, the brand likes the idea of getting in touch with the artsy side.
Topman Design SS16
Northern Soul trousers, apparently, are a thing. Its origin being the Northern Soul - a music and dance movement in in the 70s in the UK. The collection was titled 'Northern Surf', meaning super wide chinos, retro tracksuits, denim with patches and badges that quote 'long live rock n roll' and 'let's riot'.
Sofitel St James for London Collections: Men
In addition to running around to the thirty odd shows over London Collections: Men for the SS16 collections (as seen on my Instagram), I spent my long weekend at the Sofitel London St James. Both the interior and exterior shines through as a Grade II listed building - with its Victorian ceilings and grand structure.
Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibition at the V&A Museum
Before stepping foot into the V&A exhibition, I was somewhat clueless of how strong McQueen felt about the character of women. The London gallery was the first room you would enter into, after entering through the thick, black curtains where every visitor is greeted by the house's trademark skull, projected directly in front of you.
Hong Kong City Chic
In terms of getting a 'theme' for this shoot with Tania (yes, planning does occur), city chic seemed somewhat of a lazy idea. The very fact that Hong Kong, itself, is a diverse city needs no introduction; not exactly in a multi-racial perspective, it's not, but because it's a meeting-point with its Far East roots and Western influences.
Paul Costelloe Autumn Winter 2015 Presentation
Having spent my previous weekend at The Waldorf Hilton in London, it seemed fitting to discuss Paul Costelloe since he showed his AW15 collection in February at this iconic hotel. The 'real' crowd of LFW flocked from the frustrating (but fun or funny), serious peacock-ing issue that practically overcrowded Somerset House. Simply put, Costelloe's choice of venue was smart.
January Paris Fashion Week Street style
I'm currently transferring my files onto my new Macbook Pro and decided to upload some of my pictures I took when I was running around between the shows (outside Kenzo and Dior Homme). I also don't intend to make this post wordy because for street style, pictures actually speak more than words can.
Maison Margiela AW15 Menswear
Margiela is not foreign to breaking the traditional rules of fashion. Well-known for defining avant-garde (translated literally from French as "fore-guard") and pushing the boundaries of status quo. And this collection is no exception except the venue brought a touch of magic.
Acne Studios First Eyewear Collection
I’ve been checking up on Acne Studios’ website for eyewear since its mysterious disappearance about a year or two ago. It’s been a strange gap, both in the market and physically on the website, since eyewear is often a cheaper option compared to apparel and the chances of us wearing (should we be fortunate enough to live in a place where the sun shines, cough cough, not UK) would be higher, meaning better cost per wear ratio, more consumers.
Galeries Lafayette Personal Shopping #2 Parisian
I left my second and final look from my personal shopping experience with Galeries Lafayette to the hands of my personal shopper (PS) with the determination to figure out what the Parisian look was and what it took to put together. After running through several style icons, according to my PS, 'Parisian women are always suggesting, and never showing.'
Loewe FW15 Collection Preview w/ Jonathan Anderson at Joyce Hong Kong
It took a good, solid 20 minutes to queue up and meet Jonathan, a.k.a J.W.Anderson, the creative director of Spanish luxury brand Loewe. The event took place after working time on a Thursday evening and, knowing that it will be packed, I arrived early. After fighting my way through the sea of press and cameras, I said a quick hi to Jonathan and was slightly saddened by the fact there wasn't enough time to digest the inspiration of the collection first hand from the designer himself, but was quickly introduced to a representative.
Personal Shopping at Galeries Lafayette
With one week to roam around Paris on my own, I had more time; meaning more time to organise and to look around. Having spent my previous visit exploring trends at Lafayette's weekly complimentary show, I decided to return back in January to understand what are the key trends for this season and, more importantly, how its history came together to become what is it today.
Dries Van Noten AW15 Men's
There were long seconds of silence before DM Smith's acoustic version of 'Be My Baby' started playing, partly because the audience took their time to quieten down (to begin the show location, being a rather obscure one) and to get emotionally ready for the new collection. What Van Noten does every season is more than clever - and the AW15 collection is yet another example of what the designer is known to do
