DIOR MEN'S SKI CAPSULE 2021

As I count the few lasts of the remaining days of 2020, the transition to the new year naturally welcomes space for reflection and hunger for novel firsts. The benefits of an equally long (and lonely) but also short (because where did the year go and what did we really do) year have continually reaped great collaborations. And whilst I consciously try my best to avoid any repetition of the overused COVID-19 words, I have found great power in the word ‘filter’ (from a friend who described the power of filtration in virtual dating). I agree.

Nearing its Diamond Jubilee celebration, The House of Dior presents its first ever ski capsule. Its first not in 60, but 75 years. It’s a real cool treat with ready-to-wear by Kim Jones, paired with functionality. The collection features cross functional collaborations with top-of-the-range Swedish helmet brand POC , Winter Olympians’ Japanese favourite Descente in its Mizusawa Down hooded jackets, as well as AK skis, snowboards and poles. It’s a filtered, exclusive collection of high-performance skiwear (see sandwich construction technique in the making of the skis).

Whilst ‘season' in fashion is widely used with prepositions (think coupled with ‘in’ or ‘out’ as either a form of compliment or insult), the Yih family only really talks about season in the context of winter activities. I grew up remembering how Chinese New Year conversations centered around how to strategically use the red holidays to maximise time on the slopes. It’s not to do with prestige - it’s kind of the only sport we can do.

To the question of investment, I’ll also make it clear that I have officially stopped growing vertically and therefore there is no better time to maximise for future wear. Get to it Christmas elves.

The next ski season awaits. #DiorSki
