Hometown Girl

Hometown Girl

Along with hours in the library hacking away what was the last of my 'reading week' assignments, I have finally come around to posting something that's been itching since the last days of Summer.

And the result of a sweaty (complaints about Hong Kong weather clearly still to come) afternoon with Tania is thus.

With constant daylight changes, myself alternating on quadruple duty patrol, different personalities were exhibited from the photographs.

Something that was very much unintentional in the beginning, though later worked its way naturally.

Of course, there is only so much a girl could do in a bodycon dress or floor-length gown, battling the humidity outdoors against the 40 degrees celsius and standing atop a stone ledge, in 4" heels no less.

In between the more graceful takes, we found ourselves chumping down Shaomai (燒賣), exchanging jokes, recollecting memories from our travels whilst running around places neither of us

have explored on Hong Kong Island.

Tania has this energy she can bring to the room, and that unique energy has stayed with her since the day I met her. Appropriately so, her blog The Laughing Shooter was named after her passion for food and (somewhat containable) laughter.

It's not forced. There's no fabrication. Tania is a real happy-go-lucky.

And that, I can imagine, is exactly what the SAU woman attempts to portray.

A woman, or girl, of multi-interests; one that is not bound by the tight constraints of grace and vanity. Cheerful, sure, and well-equipped to do the right things on the right occasions.

SAU, with its headquarters based in Hong Kong, focuses on its concept of mixing the East and the West, with Chinese flair incorporated in its designs. Designer Cheryl Leung previously discussed her thoughts on sustaining a creative career in Hong Kong and the preference of the locals to favour brands over quality. The challenges that emerge are a true reflection of the evident, frustrating gap between cultures, yet the results are great - SAU has come about as a young, emerging brand and is now stocked on International stockists.

And on that note, success really does not come in the form of closed minds.

Stay real, hometown girl. See you in a blink of an eye.
